When a team of scientists discovers the DNA of the ancient Pokémon Mew, they harnessed the potential within it in an attempt to create the ultimate living weapon.

In any case, I can debate one apparently widely held point: "Brother, My Brother" did not fit the story at the time it was played? The scene was a bunch of Pokemon who should be getting along fighting viciously with one another for no good reason, in which the audience is meant to feel pity/compassion/sorrow at the spectacle of a pointless and tragic war between close relations, and they played a song that said, "Tell me, what are we fighting for? We have got to end this war," and more than one person thinks it was a bad fit? It's hard to imagine a reasonable argument to that effect. It was a successful science experiment gone horribly wrong. Come to think of it, one of the only things I know about material removed from Mewtwo's American story is the whole thing with Amber and the original cloned Kanto starters - colloquially, the "baby Mewtwo" stuff - and that collection of scenes/story do our established Mewtwo a great disservice in my opinion. Whatever the Japanese Mewtwo may have been like, I still am very much pleased with the stateside one. Learning now that Mewtwo's character is apparently very different in Japan than it was in the American version, I'm a little sad for not knowing what the Japanese Mewtwo was like, but at the same time, the US movie is almost entirely the reason Mewtwo has been my favorite Legendary Pokemon for more than a decade now. I've never watched the Japanese version, so I can't very strongly comment on the topic of which is better. I didn't know it was so poorly esteemed either. Let's just tell them fighting is wrong and go from there. But we don't want the kiddies to know that racism is wrong. Oh, and Mew was actually the villain in the original version. Sure, we all have our opinions on cloning, but I felt it was handled well especially since we were able to be in Mewtwo's shoes for about ten minutes or so. And really, so what if the original version is not deemed "politically correct" here in America? Honestly, the movie might've gotten a whole lot of backlash if it was left unchanged, but I think the parents and older fans would have appreciated it a little bit more for its complexity and deep, provoking themes. And also, the moral of the story contradicted itself pretty quickly in the movie with the dub. Sure, it wasn't mentioned in the movie movie, but that was why the short existed.īut of course, 4KIDS deemed it too "dark" and didn't release it until years later, and thus Mewtwo was made out to be the bad guy when he was just an anti-hero (or anti-villain anyway) who was with the wrong people when wanting to learn about life and himself. Mewtwo's origins pretty much explained a lot about why Mewtwo became the way he is, and why the Pokémon tears in the climax wasn't exactly a deus ex machina like everyone thinks it is. Please forum, tell me what is so bad about the Dub of this movie.Įveryone else has pretty much said it for me, but no one brought up the deleted scene of Mewtwo's Origins that did not see American light until it was put on the special features of Mewtwo Returns.

I think it's brilliant and nothing has ever changed that.

I've seen constant reviews on the internet about how terrible the dub of this movie seems to be and I just don't get it at all. It's true this is my favourite Pokemon Movie, but the fact that I watch the Dub and Jap (and usually prefer the Jap of everything) and prefer the Dub over the Raw version of this movie answers that for me. I can honestly say right now that this isn't nostalgia talking either as I still watch this today and feel the emotion through the music. The only problem I had with the Dub of the movie was the names of the Pokemon being wrong (Pidgeotto - Pidgeot etc.), but besides that absolutely everything was fine. I hpnestly don't see the problem everybody seems to have. I'm also aware that the majority of it is based on 4Kids work.īut personally, I think the Dub of this movie is absolutely incredible from the dialogue right down to the music. Okay, so i'm well aware that a wide amount of the Pokemon fanbase, whether you watch the jap or dub is viewed as an horrendous dub of the movie.
